Unlike a standard hotel stay, Roar and Snore is a hosted group experience with a scheduled departure. Check-in begins at 5:15 PM at the Taronga Zoo Main Entrance, ready for a 5:45 PM departure when the evening program officially commences. Because the experience takes place within the Zoo after hours, all guests move together through the grounds as a single group. To make your journey more comfortable, you won't need to worry about your luggage; our team will take care of the heavy lifting and deliver your bags directly to your safari-style tent while you begin your evening adventure.
Your stay includes overnight accommodation, a delicious dinner with beverages, a buffet breakfast, exclusive night and morning guided tours, exclusive animal encounters, Zoo access for the following day, parking and a 10% discount at all our retail stores.
On the night of your Roar and Snore adventure, your hosts will meet you at the main entrance of Taronga Zoo Sydney located on Bradley's Head Road. Check-in begins at 5:15 PM, and the adventure officially kicks off at 5:45 PM.
You are welcome to arrive by bus, car, or via a scenic 12-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay, and we are pleased to provide complimentary parking in our multi-storey car park for all guests.
For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, Roar and Snore has a strict minimum age requirement of 5 years old at the time of the stay. This policy is essential as the program involves late-night activities, navigating approximately 5km of zoo terrain in low-light conditions, and entering behind-the-scenes areas where guests must be able to follow precise safety instructions near our animals. We have found that children aged five and over are best equipped to handle the physical nature of the tours and truly engage with the educational experience. Please be aware that we may request proof of age during check-in if there is a concern regarding a child's eligibility, as we cannot permit younger children to participate in the program.
Yes, we recommend having your identification ready. On occasion, our team will ask to see a valid photo ID that matches the name on your Roar and Snore reservation during the check-in process. This helps us ensure a smooth arrival and maintain the security of the Zoo grounds for all our overnight guests.
When packing think outdoor adventure. Bring comfortable walking shoes (closed-toe are mandatory for animal encounters), wet weather gear, and warm clothing as it can get chilly by the harbour at night. While linen and towels are provided, you will need your own toiletries. Don't forget a camera, phone charger, and a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the experience.
No. Your Roar and Snore booking includes full-day entry to Taronga Zoo Sydney for the day following your stay. While the official program concludes at 9:30 AM, you are welcome to spend the rest of the day exploring the zoo at your leisure. We will take care of your luggage for the day.
No. Roar and Snore is a completely smoke-free event and location. Smoking is not permitted within the campsite or the surrounding zoo grounds during the program.
Bookings cancelled more than 14 days prior to arrival are eligible for a full refund, date change, or credit. Cancellations made within 14 days are non-refundable, though date changes are permitted for a fee of $100 per person. Please allow 6–8 weeks for refund processing to the original payment card.
Roar and Snore is an all-weather experience and will proceed in the rain. We recommend checking the forecast and bringing appropriate wet-weather gear (like rain jackets or ponchos) so you can still enjoy the night safari and outdoor tours comfortably.
The bathroom block is located in a central area of the campsite, conveniently situated within 20 to 50 metres of the safari tents. The walk follows well-lit, paved pathways, making it easy to access your private bathroom unit at any time during the night. While the tents are nestled in a nature-filled setting, you are never more than a short, minute-long stroll away from the facilities.
The bathroom facilities at Roar and Snore are designed as a dedicated block of individual, private bathrooms rather than a standard communal setup with cubicle showers. Each self-contained bathroom offers a fully private space that includes a hot shower, toilet, and vanity, allowing you to get ready in comfort and privacy. These individual units are modern, well-maintained, and situated just a short walk from your tent. While the tents do not have ensuites, this configuration provides a premium camping experience that balances the adventure of the outdoors with the convenience of private amenities.
No, there is no need to bring your own bedding or towels. We provide a fully hosted experience where all linen, pillows, doonas, and towels are provided and professionally set up in your safari-style tent prior to your arrival. You simply need to pack your personal toiletries and any seasonal clothing required for your stay.
Yes, each safari-style tent is fully equipped with electricity for your comfort and convenience. Your tent includes internal lighting, as well as fans for the summer months and electric blankets during winter. There are also dedicated power outlets available, so you can easily charge your phones and cameras overnight to ensure you're ready to capture all the action the following day.
As Roar and Snore is an authentic safari-style camping experience, the temperature inside the tents will reflect the local Sydney weather. To keep you comfortable year-round, we provide fans during the summer months to circulate the breeze and electric blankets during the winter to ensure a cozy night's sleep. While the tents are designed to be weather-proof, we always recommend checking the forecast and packing appropriate seasonal sleepwear to complement the provided bedding.
Each of our safari-style tents has a maximum capacity of 3 adults and 1 child. The standard bedding layout features one comfortable double bed and one single bed; for bookings of four people, a single rollaway bed is added . To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, families or groups of 5 or more are required to book at least two tents. In these instances, please contact our team so we can prioritise allocating your tents side-by-side. Additionally, please note that for safety and supervision, any guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in their tent.
No, there is no additional cost for a rollaway bed. When a tent is booked for four people, the rollaway is automatically included as part of your package to accommodate the fourth guest. Our pricing is inclusive of the bedding configuration required for your group size, ensuring your safari-style tent is fully prepared for your arrival.
The Roar and Snore experience is a fully hosted, overnight adventure with a structured itinerary. The evening is packed with activities, tours and dinner before settling into your safari-style tent for the night. The following morning starts early with breakfast and a series of behind-the-scenes animal encounters before the Zoo opens to the general public. The hosted portion of the experience concludes at 9:30 AM, at which point you are welcome to spend the remainder of the day exploring the Zoo at your leisure with your included entry.
A detailed example itinerary of a regular visit can be viewed online.
During your Roar and Snore adventure, you will have the opportunity to see a wide variety of animals through two distinct experiences. The evening night safari and tours and the morning behind-the-scenes encounters.
Because the welfare of our animals is our highest priority, the specific animals you meet can vary from day to day based on their needs, but you can always expect a diverse and educational look at both native Australian species and exotic animals from around the world.
Our team will do their absolute best to highlight the animals you're most excited about or provide extra insights into the areas of conservation that interest you most. Whether it’s a specific question about an animal's routine or a small request to make your night more memorable, just let your hosts know, and they will see what they can do to make it happen.
Yes, your stay is fully catered. It includes a harbourside dinner, a buffet breakfast, and light snacks after your evening activities. A selection of beverages including beers, wines, juices, soft drinks, tea, and coffee are also provided. Please note that bringing outside alcohol onto Zoo premises is strictly prohibited.
The Roar and Snore experience is an active, outdoor adventure that covers a significant portion of the Zoo’s unique steep terrain. Guests should be prepared to walk approximately 5km throughout their stay during our guided night safari and morning tours. Because the Zoo is situated on a natural hillside, the route includes several steep slopes and stairs that are navigated at a steady, consistent pace. We recommend a moderate level of fitness, as the program also requires the ability to stand for extended periods during keeper talks and animal encounters. If you have any mobility concerns, please let our team know in advance so we can ensure you are well-supported during your stay.
While Taronga strives to be as accessible as possible, it is important to note that our safari-style tents at Roar and Snore are not currently classified as fully wheelchair accessible. However, the campsite is equipped with accessible bathroom and shower facilities nearby. The experience itself involves traveling approximately 5km across the Zoo’s natural hillside terrain, which includes several steep slopes. If you are a wheelchair user, please contact our team directly prior to booking so we can discuss the specific layout of the site and the physical nature of the tours to ensure we can accommodate your needs safely and comfortably.
All Roar and Snore bookings are calculated on a per-person basis. The listed inclusions which encompass your accommodation, dinner, breakfast, drinks, and all hosted tours and encounters apply to every guest registered in your booking.
When you book your safari tent, the total price will reflect the specific number of adults and children in your party. This ensures that every member of your group is fully catered for, from bedding setup and meals to their participation in the exclusive behind-the-scenes animal experiences and zoo entry.
We take dietary requirements and food safety very seriously at Roar and Snore. We are more than happy to cater to a variety of needs, including Coeliac Disease, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut allergies, and vegan or vegetarian diets. To ensure you have the best dining experience, please notify us of any specific requirements or severe allergies at the time of booking. This allows our catering team to prepare safe, high-quality alternatives for your dinner and breakfast. On the night, we also encourage you to have a quick chat with your hosts during check-in.
